You don’t have to play legendary golf. You just have to make the round legendary.
Somewhere along the way, golf got way too serious.
We started worrying about handicaps.
Launch angles.
Ball speed.
Spin rates.
New drivers.
New putters.
And whether that $600 piece of technology in the bag is finally going to fix the swing we've been fighting for twenty years.
Spoiler alert: - Probably not.
But we'll buy it anyway.
Because we're golfers.
The truth is, most of us aren't going to shoot 68 this Saturday.
Hell, some of us would be happy if we could just get through eighteen holes with the same golf ball we started with.
And you know what?
That's perfectly fine.
Because you don't have to be great at golf to absolutely love this game.
GOLF BELONGS TO ALL OF US
There's something special about the everyday golfer.
The guy who works all week and starts thinking about Saturday's tee time sometime around Wednesday afternoon.
The dad squeezing in nine holes with his son.
The compas meeting at the muni before the West Texas heat kicks in.
The golfer who didn't grow up around country clubs or junior golf programs and discovered the game later in life.
Some learned from Dad.
Some learned from Grandpa.
Some learned from a buddy who finally convinced them to come play.
And some of us basically learned by hitting balls, losing balls and occasionally saying words that probably shouldn't be repeated in the clubhouse.
Different stories.
Same game.
That's what makes golf great.
WE'RE ALL CHASING THAT ONE SHOT
Every golfer knows exactly what I'm talking about.
You can play seventeen holes of absolute garbage.
Driver isn't working.
Putter has betrayed you.
You've donated enough golf balls to the desert to personally keep Titleist in business.
Then it happens.
One swing.
PURE.
Maybe it's a 7-iron.
Maybe it's a drive right down the middle.
Maybe it's a twenty-foot putt you had absolutely no business making.
You stand there for half a second watching it.
Then you look at your buddies.
They look at you.
And somebody says:
“Where the hell has THAT been all day?”
That's golf.
One shot can bring you back next Saturday.
And we love it.
THE SCORECARD DOESN'T TELL THE WHOLE STORY
Don't get me wrong.
Trying to improve is part of the game.
Breaking 100 matters.
Breaking 90 matters.
Breaking 80 matters.
Your first birdie matters.
Your first eagle definitely matters.
Those accomplishments should be celebrated.
But somewhere between chasing a lower handicap and trying to find five more yards, we shouldn't forget why most of us started playing in the first place.
Because this game is fun.
It's spending four hours outside.
It's talking trash with your buddies.
It's meeting somebody on the first tee who might eventually become a lifelong friend.
It's beers at the turn.
It's laughing about the shot that bounced off a cart path, hit a tree and somehow ended up ten feet from the pin.
There isn't a stat for that.
But maybe there should be.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOOK LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE EITHER
This is one of the reasons Leyenda Golf Co. exists.
Golf has traditions worth respecting.
We believe in them.
Respect the course.
Respect the people you're playing with.
Take care of the game so the next generation gets to enjoy it.
But respecting tradition doesn't mean everybody has to look the same, talk the same or come from the same place.
Bring yourself to the game.
Bring your culture.
Bring your familia.
Bring your music.
Bring your style.
Bring your story.
Golf is better when the people playing it aren't afraid to be themselves.
That's Golf Hecho Diferente.
MAKE THE ROUND LEGENDARY
So the next time you tee it up, don't worry if your swing doesn't look like the guy on television.
Don't worry if your handicap isn't where you want it.
Don't worry if the guy in the other cart has clubs that cost more than your first car.
Play your game.
Laugh.
Talk a little trash.
Take the picture.
Buy the drink at the turn.
Celebrate your buddy's birdie.
Celebrate your own bogey if that's what it takes.
And when that one perfect shot finally comes...
Enjoy the hell out of it.
Because none of us knows how many rounds we get.
And twenty years from now, chances are nobody is going to ask what your handicap was.
They're going to remember whether they enjoyed playing golf with you.
You don't have to play legendary golf.
You just have to make the round legendary.
